R. Keith Henderson
Captain Keith Henderson, age 77, passed away at home in Cadiz, Ohio on May 18, 2018. He was born March 13, 1941 in Wheeling, West Virginia to the late Dr. George Edgar and Sarah McCollum Henderson. He graduated from Ohio State University where he studied psychology and completed USAF ROTC.
Keith served in the Air Force flying the C-130 in support of operations in Vietnam. He made several assault type landings at Khe Sanh while the airfield was under fire. After serving in Southeast Asia Keith flew the C-141 with the 62nd Airlift Wing at McChord. He was a 40 year member of the Cadiz American Legion.
Hired by NWA on March 24, 1969. This was a tough time to hired due to the long term layoffs that followed. During his years at NWA Keith flew the Boeing 727, the 707 series, and the DC-10. In these ‘working’ years he and his wife Carol resided in Eagan, Minnesota. He retired a NWA DC-10 captain on March 13, 2001.
Keith was a rare exception to the NWA pilot profile in that he returned to his Midwest hometown of Cadiz, Ohio and reestablished his roots. He was active in this community and in retirement Keith especially enjoyed the high quality golf courses there.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret “Peggy” Mayo. Surviving are his wife Carolyn “Carol” Zumberge Henderson; a son, Matt Henderson of Henderson, Nevada; a grandson, Andrew Henderson; and a sister, Barbara Matthews of Norfolk, Virginia.
