William David Isaacson

Captain Bill Isaacson, age 76, passed away May 24, 2019 at home peacefully and comfortably in Ft. Meyers Beach, FL after a long illness. Bill born in Virginia, Minnesota to parents Eleanor and Bernard Isaacson. He was widowed in December 2013 with the passing of his wife Chrysmarie.
Bill’s childhood and teen years were spent on the Iron Range of Minnesota. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Virginia, MN and went on to earn a certificate in architecture from the Mesabi Range Junior College. According to family members Bill’s education goal was to acquire two years of college required for admission to the Marine Corps Aviation Cadet (MarCad) program.
In the fall of 1963 Bill entered the USMC MarCad pilot training program. He earned his gold Naval Aviators wings in 1965. His first assignment after pilot training assignment was to F-4 Phantom transition training. Upon completion he was assigned to DaNang Air Base in Vietnam (1966-1967) where he flew more than 100 missions over North and South Vietnam. In addition he served as a Forward Air Controller in Vietnam out of the Khe Sanh Base.
Upon completion of his Vietnam tour, Bill was assigned to VMF 333 at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, SC flying the F-8 Crusaders. He served in this squadron until the completion of his USMC commitment in June 1968.
Bill was hired by Northwest Airlines on October 07, 1968. At the time of his age sixty retirement in February 2003, Bill was flying the 747/400.
The wife of Bill Isaacson, Chrysmarie Janet nee Sherwood Isaacson, a NWA Flight Attendant, proceeded Bill in death in December of 2013. Bill is survived by his son Jon Ray and his sister Gael.
Before her death, Chrysmarie, with the aid of the Yellow Ribbon Alliance of the Lower St. Croix Valley, pulled off a surprise parade for the decorated Vietnam Veteran Captain William ‘Willie’ Isaacson, a much belated welcome home celebration.
